Support, when Spiritual Crisis Hits

What I work with

If a spiritual process has become too much right now — if the ground feels gone, if your body is doing things you don’t have words for, or if you’re not sure anymore whether this is still awakening or something that’s turned into a crisis: you’re not going crazy. This is known territory, even if it feels isolating.

I’m not the person who helps you awaken. I’m the person people come to when the path itself starts to stumble: crisis, shadow, material that hasn’t found its place yet. Sometimes people notice the stumbling themselves. Sometimes they only realize in conversation what’s actually going on.

Different shapes, not stages

There are different shapes this can take. These aren’t steps on a ladder — they can show up at any point, right at the beginning, in the middle of decades of practice, anywhere. This page isn’t making a diagnosis, just naming that these are different things, and none of them is something to be ashamed of.

Spiritual Bypassing

Often more of a pattern than an event — unnoticed while it’s happening, even without a crisis, even in the middle of an otherwise “normal” spiritual path. Spirituality used as a way to escape yourself.

Spiritual Crisis

A more acute, often physically intense event, usually following an awakening experience. Energy, exhaustion, the ground gone, fear of what’s happening in your body — and rarely any language for it.

Shadow Work

The ongoing, ordinary work. Conditioning that wants to be seen. This also includes integrating states you’ve already had — an experience of emptiness, oneness, or energy that hasn’t yet found a place in daily life.

Managing Spiritual Crisis

For a longer conversation on spiritual emergencies and their connection to trauma, I spoke with Pierce Salguero of Multidharma. We talk about why so many people are caught off guard by these experiences and what actually helps: grounding, orientation, context, and — as much as anything — not doing it alone.

Why me?

I made it through. I’m still here.

Over twenty years, my own path ran through awakening, shadow work, and trauma integration — and a lot of it wasn’t luminous. The ground gave out with no warning. I lost the thread of my own life more than once, not trusting what I was perceiving, not knowing if I was breaking down or breaking open. Somehow I found my way. Now I help others find theirs.

That’s why I work with you from this depth: grounded in what I’ve lived, not in theory. What supports me: somatic inquiry, trauma-informed practice, and systemic thinking — not as a fixed method, but adapted to what’s in front of me.

If it’s acute right now

A Place to Land isn’t emergency support. If you or someone you know needs help right now — suicidal thoughts, acute panic, or the sense that your system is collapsing rather than being challenged — please go here first: Emergency Support →
